I had an opportunity to travel to Charleston, South Carolina this month to do some work and catch a little R&R. Since it is one of my favorite cities, I jumped at the chance and brought my family along.
On this particular trip, we spent a lot of time on the beautiful neighborhood development of I’On. Located in Mt. Pleasant, this community is about halfway between downtown Charleston and Sullivan’s Island. The location is ideal, and the whole area is idyllic. Every house has a wrap-around porch, streets are lined with trees, and kids ride their bikes freely through the streets without a care in the world.
But what I really thought was great about I’On were the chances to enjoy nature. There are trails through woods and a long walking trail around the surrounding marshland, and there is even a butterfly garden.
During my down time, I visited relatives in town who let me try out their kayak with foot pedals. There must be a proper name for this – anyone know it? Whatever it’s called, I liked it a lot. At first I thought it was too easy, not having to row and all…until my legs started burning from all the pedaling. It makes for an excellent leg workout.
